Volkswagen announced that the Race Touareg 3 teasing will come to an end on August 20, when the racer will be unveiled in the ancient amphitheater in Trier, Germany, a site that dates back to 100 AD.
As we previously reported, the vehicle will be an evolution of its predecessor. The car promises to offer an improved look and comes with more power (it will continue to burn oil).
VW announced it aims a hat-trick at this year’s Dakar, presenting the four teams what will drive the Race Touareg 3 vehicles in January 2011: last year's winners Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz (E/E), Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk (Q/D), Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (ZA/D) and Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/ZA).
“Our aim is the hat-trick at the Dakar”, said VW Motorsport Director Kris Nissen.
The special unveiling event will feature all the aforementioned racers, with the ceremony taking place during this season's WRC round Rally Germany. Subsequently, the vehicle will set off for Russia, where it will celebrate its competitive debut at the Silk Way Rally from September 11 to 18.
"With the Race Touareg 3 we've completed the next step in the evolution of a technology that has already been successful,” the executive added. "Particularly in respect of aerodynamics we've reached the next level and improved the qualities of the predecessor yet again. This effort has produced a spectacular outer skin and an updated technical core. With the ‘RT3' we'll tackle our big aim: the hat-trick at the Dakar Rally!”
