The partnership between Volkswagen and Suzuki didn’t have a flying start, as the two automakers have been having issues ever since VW execs called Suzuki an “associate”. Ever since then, their corporate relationship has steadily deteriorated to a point where the partnership no longer looks feasible.

“Volkswagen is not talking to us,”
Osamu Suzuki, the Hamamatsu City, Japan-based company’s chairman, said in an interview, according to Bloomberg. “We have no plans to talk to them.”

The venture was supposed to help Volkswagen take advantage of Suzuki’s strong presence in Asia, especially in India, which is the second largest market there. But almost three billion dollars worth of investments could go down the drain.

Suzuki could also stand to benefit from the advanced German technology that was put at its disposal, and the two would collaborate on hybrid and electric car project.
