However, he rated his chances of making the 2010 roster as “very slim”, as no team has showed a real interest in signing him. His best chances of joining an F1 outfit so far rested with newly-entrants US F1, who theoretically needed an experienced driver to help them grow competitive in the series.
Rumors about Villeneuve's potential deal with the team co-owned by Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson started surfacing in the media soon after the Monaco Grand Prix, when the former Williams & BMW driver was seen in the F1 paddock. His F1 appearances did not stop there, however, as he also visited the F1 caravan at Silverstone.
No less than 6 drivers' seats will be available for the 2010 Formula One roster, with 3 new teams making the field for next year. Apart from US F1, Campos Grand Prix and Manor GP are also to announce their drivers' lineups later this year. Also, other driver positions that look kind of shady for the moment are the ones of Toro Rosso's Sebastien Bourdais and Renault's Nelsinho Piquet, although these are clearly not an option for Villeneuve due to age-related reasons.
