Vettel Tops First Practice in Hungary

Red Bull Racing continued their dominant pace in timed sessions this season with another 1-2 performance in the FP1 of the Hungarian Grand Prix. On a dusty track that everyone had some hard time getting used to, German driver Sebastian Vettel scored the best time of 1:20.976, being the only racer to drop under the one minute and 21 seconds barrier this morning.

Second in command was his teammate Mark Webber, who was only 0.130 seconds behind the German. From then on, the closest lap time to Red Bull's pace belonged to Renault's Robert Kubica, who stopped the clock more than a second behind Vettel. The Pole was followed by McLaren's Jenson Button, almost one and a half second behind, Williams' Rubens Barichello and BMW Sauber Ferrari's Pedro de la Rosa.

Germany GP winner and yesterday's birthday boy Fernando Alonso came some 1.7 seconds off pace to Vettel in 7th place, managing to top both Mercedes GP's Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher by a few hundredths of a second. Tenth place belonged to Nico Hulkenberg (Williams).

Returning to the scene of his horrific crash last year, Felipe Massa only managed the 12th best time of the morning session, less than 3 tenths of a second behind Alonso.

According to the initial reports in Hungary, Ferrari tested several setups of their front wing on Friday morning, as it's still uncertain whether the two F10s will feature the wing used at Silverstone and Hockenheim.

Since all drivers struggled with low grip during the first 90 minutes of action at the Hungaroring, spins were inevitable, with the most spectacular being the one pulled off by Renault's Vitaly Petrov less than 30 minutes to the end of the session, in the final corner.
