Vettel's Switch to Ferrari Unlikely, Says Red Bull Advisor

Helmut Marko, advisor of Red Bull’s boss Dietrich Mateschitz, has expressed his doubts about a possible switch to Ferrari for Vettel in the near future. The 22-year-old German driver has recently said that he sees Ferrari as a possible future employer for him.

Vettel’s contract with Red Bull is said to expire at the end of the 2011, so a switch to Ferrari could happen from the 2012 season. Helmut Marko however doesn't think such a move would be logical for Vettel.

"Ferrari is something very special for each driver. But you only have to look at the situation. Why should he go there to be with Alonso when he's doing more than well with us?" the Austrian ex-F1 driver said in an interview with APA news agency.

Although Vettel is doing very well at Red Bull, Marko has indicated that the Austrian team would not sign an agreement with Vettel binding him to the squad for the rest of his career.

"That's something we wouldn't want. He needs to feel at home and that he wants to be driving with us," said Marko. He added that negociations to keep the current driver lineup are in progress, although Red Bull team boss Christian Horner denied contract talks with Webber.

Helmut Marko underlined the fact that Red Bull is now in a good negotiating position, as opposed to previous years when it had no chance of snatching world-class drivers. "We no longer have to go knocking on doors," the Austrian said.
