Vettel Not Interested in Runner-up Spot

“Winning is everything in Formula One” seems to be the motto by which German driver Sebastian Vettel guides his steps in the sport. The 22-year old lost the chance to become world champion in Brazil and doesn't seem to care about whether he'll finish the season in the runner-up spot or 3rd overall.

The way Vettel sees it, scoring another win in Abu Dhabi would make things a little more acceptable this season, as he would end the year with an overall 4 wins under his belt. However, he won't chase the win in the season finale because he cares about second place, but because he tackles every race in the championship to win.

Second is the first loser. I'll just try to do my best in Abu Dhabi. Obviously the target is to win, as we have a winning car. I don't really care about second or third,” said Vettel after his 4th place finish in Brazil.

The German driver, who'll probably show himself at Abu Dhabi with a beard-less face, insisted that he would have probably won the race if he hadn't have several problems during qualifying. The Red Bulls were believed to be the main contenders for a race win on Sunday – because of their characteristics on high-speed circuit – but Vettel could only manage 15th in the qualifying session.

He saved the day with a 4th place finish, while teammate Mark Webber demonstrated how powerful the Red Bulls really were by taking a commanding victory up front.

All in all it was a good race, starting from the back and finishing fourth. Maybe it was the maximum we could do. Obviously without the problems in qualifying we should have won that race, but we didn't, so there's not much more to say,” said Vettel.
