Vettel Not Giving Up Hope to Win F1 Title

With some 10 laps to go in the Korean Grand Prix on Sunday, it seemed that Lady Fortune had finally decided to smile to Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel. He was leading the race comfortably and, had he finished that way, he would have become the new No 1 driver in the 2010 title fight.

An engine problem later and the German driver switched from ecstasy to agony, and from leading the championship to 4th in the standings. He was forced to retire once again due to a reliability issue experienced by his car and, with 2 races to go in the series, he is one race win away from Fernando Alonso.

Although clearly frustrated with his bad luck on Sunday – following what he described as a more or less perfect weekend in Korea – Vettel told the media that he will continue to hope for the title. With 50 point left to fight for, the German has to pass 3 drivers for the F1 crown, meaning winning will become pretty much anything from now on.

I think we can. There are still 50 points to go. Obviously it would have been much easier if we had won today. That's life, that's how it goes sometimes,” said Vettel after the race.

There has been a little bit too much of it for us this season. Ups and down, everyone has had those, but I think we have had quite a lot in particular, but you can't change it. So we will keep our head down and keep doing what we were doing up to now. Just trying to get the best out of the car and I think in terms of speed there is nothing to improve.”

After a perfect performance on Saturday, with another 1-2 finish in qualifying, Red Bull have walked away from the Yeongam track empty handed, as Mark Webber also had to retire due to a tete-a-queue (followed by a crash) in the first part of the race. Unlike in the drivers' classification, the Austrian outfit still leads in the manufacturers race, with some 27 points ahead of McLaren Mercedes
