Red Bull Admit Strategy to Build Team around Vettel

Red Bull might give both its drivers a proper shot at the F1 title this season, but that changes nothing in the long-term strategy for the Austrian team. As far as team manager Christian Horner is concerned, Sebastian Vettel will remain the driver around which Red Bull will build its future.

I repeat: we are building the team around Sebastian. Sebastian has a long career ahead of him and hopefully he will spend it with us,” Horner is quoted as saying by German publication Auto Bild.

According to Horner, his veteran driver Mark Webber – with whom he also co-owns a GP3 Series team – is not going to spend too many seasons in F1 for the future, and it would be nice to end his career with a world title. That's why he reiterated Red Bull's decision to let both its drivers fight for the title until the last chequered flag, as long as the celebration party will go down in their garage in Abu Dhabi.

Mark is in the autumn of his career. He wants to retire while he's at the top, not when he's past his peak like some other drivers,” added the Red Bull boss.

Jacques Villeneuve, former F1 champion, insists however that Red Bull may be right in building a team around Vettel, but the way they do it is unprofessional and wrong.

Just look at the differing seasons Mark and Sebastian have had. Vettel has shown he has an impetuous streak but if he makes a mistake and the team don't tell him it was his fault, he won't learn,” said the Canadian in an interview with the Telegraph.
