Red Bull Owner Says Vettel Faster Than Webber

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz recently told the media that he believes Sebastian Vettel has a speed advantage over his teammate Mark Webber in the title fight. In other words, although Mark Webber is currently leading the championship by 15 points, this may or may not secure him the world crown at the end of the year.

Sebastian seems to have a slight edge as far as speed is concerned. We will see whether Mark's (points) advantage is enough to win the title,” said Mateschitz in an interview with German news agency DPA, having in mind Vettel's win from pole position at Suzuka.

Needless to say, his statement would sound logical in any other context than the one involving Red Bull. Which is that, following this year's Turkish Grand Prix, there has been an outspoken pro-Vettel trend within the Austrian organization, and the team owner made no exception from that. Asked about his rumored favoritism of Vettel over Webber, Mateschitz insisted he would be happy with any outcome in the title race, as long as Red Bull will win as a team.

If we win the drivers' title we would be happy for both in the same way because each one would deserve it. It is important that they both know that they need the other man to become world champion, and that they are also driving for the team and the constructors' championship,” added the Austrian billionaire.

Nevertheless, Mateschitz made it very clear that his team will favor both drivers in the same manner for the title, as his strategy is not based on team orders.

There will be no team order from our side. The driver who makes the least mistakes and is faster should, or will, win,” added the 66-year old Austrian.
