Vettel Dismisses No 1 Status Claims at Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel insisted that he doesn't hold the No 1 status within the Red Bull Racing team, despite constant reports suggesting that the Milton Keynes based team supported him through the Turkish Grand Prix incident just to send out a message to his teammate Mark Webber.

The Australian driver signed a one-year extension with the Red Bull organization earlier today, and it is believed Vettel will soon move into the negotiation fever himself for a 3-year extension that would keep him at Milton Keynes until 2015. Having that in mind, and also the recent incident with his teammate in Istanbul, Vettel insisted that both drivers will push to the maximum without thinking of team orders for the time being.

We have been discussing internally obviously, there is neither driver, Mark nor myself, being favored in any way. We go out and try to find out who is the better one, like it should be,” said Vettel in an interview with the BBC.

We know we have exactly the same chances. There are a lot of races to come and a lot of things to happen - the most important thing to happen is to keep looking forward,” added the 22-year old German.

Also, after admitting he was under a lot of pressure during the Turkish Grand Prix – partially admitting some kind of guilt in his making contact with Webber on the Istanbul track – the German now confirmed it was him who moved to the right when approaching Turn 12 of Lap 41 two Sundays ago, only that he proceeded to doing so for the right reasons.

I got a very good run out of the corner leading on to the back straight, got a big tow. Then I was going on the inside. I had already passed Mark and then obviously tried to come slowly back to the right. At that time I was the leading car so usually then the leader dictates when to go. All of a sudden we made contact and that was the end of the race for me,” added Vettel.
