As the number of EVs on the road steadily grows, the network of charging stations needs to keep up. In the US, there are currently 10,000 public charging stations, as well as numerous others which can be found in homes and office parking lots, throughout the US.
However, if the prediction by Frost & Sullivan (global consultancy firm which makes predictions on industry growth) turns out to be correct, the US could have as many as 4.1 million charging points by the year 2017. This may seem a little far fetched, but if EV sales rise exponentially, there may be no other way.

However, these 4.1 million charging stations will not be available to the public, as they will by owners, in their homes. Frost and Sullivan predicts that only around 500,000 of the total number will be available for public use. Of these chargers, most will be ‘Level 1’ chargers, as they are the cheapest and easiest to install and connect up to a 110-Volt power supply.
