“More power, less fuel” seems to be the new motto of the German carmaker Porsche if we have a look at the newly-launched Cayman and Boxster. Both models incorporate more powerful engines than their predecessors, but also more fuel efficient, being capable of providing enhanced output with basically the same, or even reduced, amount of gas. To be more specific, Porsche announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show the much-debated upgraded Cayman and Boxster models, touted by the company for their performance and reduced fuel consumption.

To get more techy, the Boxster is now powered by a six-cylinder engine with a 2.7-liter capacity capable of developing 255 bhp, 10 bhp more over the previous model. Moreover, the Boxster S is more powerful by approximately 15 bhp than the previous version, with a maximum output now rated at 310 bhp. Beside all of these, both Boxster and Boxster S are equipped with Porsche's Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, formerly known as PDK, a new double-clutch gearbox that reduces fuel consumption but, at the same time, improves acceleration and comfort.

For instance, Boxster S accelerates from 0 to 100kmh in no less than 5.2 seconds while the base model does the same thing in 5.8 seconds. Fuel consumption is somewhere around 8.9 liters and 9.2 liters per 100 km for Boxster and Boxster S, respectively.

The new Cayman is, just like the two Bosxter models, more powerful but also more fuel efficient than its predecessors. The base Cayman is powered by a 2.9-liter flax-six engine with a top output of 265 bhp while the S version has a 3.4-liter six-cylinder boxer engine with a maximum power of 320 bhp. 0 to 100 km/h acceleration has been improved as well, with 5.7 seconds for the base model and 5.1 seconds for the sporty variant.

“Sophisticated materials, a very pleasant ambience and an equally pleasant surface touch confirm the premium position of Porsche's sporting two-seater within the interior,” Porsche said in a statement released to the press. “The interaction of the new engines with this new gearbox is quite revolutionary, both sports cars offering new records in acceleration together with even greater fuel economy. “
