Undisguised, Brown and Awesome: 2012 Porsche 911 Spotted Again

You may run scared from the photographers, but you can’t hide for long mister new Porsche 911! We’ve only got a month to go before the official reveal at the 2011 IAA in Frankfurt, but there’s not much left that we haven’t seen. The latest in a long line of spyshots, plus that video we saw in July have ensured the next-gen sportscar has few secrets. Now there's new footage from a German connoisseur that pretty much answers all the questions we had left regarding the looks of the 911. The biggest one started forming in our minds when we saw a render from German publication Auto Bild, showing a beveled design on the stoplights that’s never been seen before. The video that was shot in a Stuttgart gas station shows that the next 911 does indeed have such a feature (see adjacent image). The other big fact that’s being revealed here is more of a nuance than a proper technical fact: the 911 is in brown/chocolate, indicating that Porsche is making a return to the color pallet it used in the 80s. Mind you, that was the heyday of the 928, which is also making a comeback in the form of a Panamera coupe that should arrive in about three years. The car is also sporting the Targa top we’ve been promised, though its just a huge retractable glass roof, and not the split design we’ve been hoping for. We’ll get to see the design in full next month in Frankfurt, but until then, just enjoy the ‘brown’ video. autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Frankfurt Auto Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
