Ukrainian Ksenia Niks Crashes Her Fiesta Hard during Nurburgring WTCC Qualifying

Unfortunately, things haven't gone exactly smoothly during the qualifying laps and we're here to focus on Hungarian driver Ksenia Niks' crash, which you can see in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page.

Nicks' ETCC Ford Fiesta lost the rear end under braking, oversteering into the protection element on the side of the track. Alas, things didn't end there, as the racecar recoiled and them jumped the vibrator close to the impact zone. This led to air time that made the brakes ineffective, with the Fiesta going across the track and plowing into the elastic crash barrier on the other side.

While the Ford sustained heavy damage to its front end, the driver fortunately walked away from the accident, but not before having the vehicle towed out of the way of the other racers - you can see this phase at the end of the video.

We have to explain these races see participants going at it on a 25 km (15.5-mile) version of the infamous German track, which is comprised of the Grand Prix circuit and the Nordschleife loop.

The World Touring Car Championship returned to the Nurburgring last year for the first time since 2011 and while we're glad the tradition continues to be built, we hope the 'Ring doesn't claim any more racecars.

Accidents such as the one in the video below only come to show the kind of dangers untrained drivers expose themselves to when entering Touristenfahrten (tourist day) events, so, in the quest to remain safe, thorough preparation is key.
