UK Government to Take 'Hands Off' Approach to EV Popularisation

The United Kingdom has been slow to react to the widespread introduction of all-electric vehicles, and despite being highly-developed state, where people can afford to buy more expensive green cars, yet choose not to.
The UK Government has now reportedly rejected a House of Commons suggestion on how to improve the rate of popularisation of EVs. They are adamant that it is not the government's job to deal with the matter, and adding new charging points and other related miscellaneous requirements.

There are currently numerous different charging schemes in place across the UK, and while they should be standardised, the government still insists it is not their job to do so.

An official statement was issued saying: “There are advantages to a single recharging plug solution… it is our stance that it is for the market and industry to decide what charging hardware and infrastructure will be.

This all comes as a response to the Transport Select Committee's "Plug-in Vehicles, Plugged in Policy?" report. The Committee also asked for further information on the decision to increase the tax for low-emissions company cars, as of 2015, which has upset some of the local automakers.

It is strange, though, as the UK Government is oddly reluctant to offer any kind of real support to EVs, while countries like Germany, the Netherlands and even Estonia are powering ahead - tailpipe emissions free.
