Twin-Engined VW Jetta Packs VR6 and W8: Insane

In case you haven’t noticed, VW is a very, very special brand when it comes to its fans - while the automaker’s creations never stray too far from the clinical attitude they’ve always exhibited, certain contraptions put together by fans can put a Lamborghini to shame when it comes to being outrageous. Case in point with the twin-engined VW Jetta Mk IV we are talking about today. Let's call this the VRW14, shall we?
The build comes from an American car aficionado nut, who also likes to play with Mustangs in his spare time. Talking of this, he must have quite a lot of it, since the Jetta build is an extreme one. Up front, we have a VR6 engine. Nothing all that special so far.

Check out the rear seats though, or rather the lack thereof and you’ll notice a nice little W8 engine taken from a Passat. The unit has gone through a rebuild and, since it was at it, our guy also threw in a turbo setup to make sure he has all the right stuff in the cabin.

Did we say cabin? Sorry, we meant adventure - While the VR6 instrument cluster is where you’d expect it to be, the W8’s set of dash instruments sits at the center of the dash. The dashboard air vents on the sides have now grown a rollcage, perhaps to match the custom tubualr frame that holds the W8 in place.

The twin setup is obviously also matched when it comes to transmissions - the VR6’s manual is in its usual place, while a bit further back we find the shifter for the W8’s automatic gearbox.

This is all a matter of DIY fun, so don’t expect hp and torque numbers. Let’s just say that the god damn thing is mighty fast. The clip below should provide a nice sample of how this Jetta runs. By the way, it's such a pitty that this guy is not all that good with making videos...

Before you move on to his clip though, here are a few words from the guy who built the car - he explains the drivability factor, a question we supposed you may have.

“You guys should know that it doesn't matter if the the revs or gear ratios match. The w8 transmission is automatic and has a torque converter. The only drivability problem I predict at the moment is that it will be easy to grenade the front engine if I don't shift properly because the rear engine may be able to push it past the rev limiter,” the VAG lover said.
