TTXGP 2011 eGrandPrix Rules Released

The revised TTXGP Technical Rules for 2011 have just been released, and are available for download. New for 2011 are two classes (the open Formula GP class and the Formula 75 class), reduced range, new safety systems and wiki influence from Wiki.eGrandPrix.Com.

Specifically, the Formula GP class is as before but with a reduced weight restriction, from 300kg/660 pounds to 250kg/550 pounds, in order to encourage improvements in long term power to weight ratios.

On the other hand, Formula 75 limits the amount of stored energy to 7.5kWh and the maximum overall weight to 200kg/440 pounds.

Safety wise, changes include an additional third safety cut off in the form of a lanyard attached to the rider and the bike, new standards for emergency cut off switches, and new requirements for the power-on indicator on the rear of the machine, to make it more visible.

"The revised rules for 2011 consolidate the practical experience we have gained during the 2010 season, with our prime emphasis as always being on safety," TTXGP Technical Chairman, Simon Maddison, said in a statement for the press.

"The introduction of a new energy restricted class opens up some exciting opportunities for teams operating on more limited budgets; and the weight restrictions are the first step in what we plan as a progressive reduction in weight limit over time, with the aim of stretching teams' ingenuity in construction and efficiency -weight is the enemy of performance!"

2011 also marks the first year of any motorsport series to have rules that have been influenced by the wiki.

"These rules are the culmination of months of effort by stakeholders, race fans and electric vehicle enthusiasts," stated Harry Mallin, the TTXGP Wiki moderator. "It's been a rewarding experience working with so many people from all over the world who willingly gave of their time and experience to be a part of history."
