Travis Pastrana Takes the Oregon Trail Rally Win

Subaru Rally Team USA’s Travis Pastrana and his co-driver Christian Edstrom won the Oregon Trail Rally this past weekend, picking up the Championship Lead. This was their third win of four races in the 2009 Rally America National Championship.

Driving a Subaru WRX STI, Pastrana and Edstrom ended the first stage in the runner-up spot, trailing the leaders by under four seconds. The following day, the team was spared the task of driving their #199 car through heavy clouds of dust kicked up from the dry roads and amassed a lead of over 44 seconds. The last stage of the Oregon Trail Rally was tackled without any major problems, as the team went on to secure an easy first place on the podium.

"It was an amazing rally. We have three wins so far this season so we are doing really well,”
said Pastrana who is looking for his fourth straight Rally America Championship win this year.

The WRX STI that helped Pastrana and Endstrom to climb their way to the Championship’s lead has a 2.5-liter intercooled turbocharged Boxer engine develops 305 horsepower and is also equipped with a Dual Active Valve Control System (Dual AVCS) variable valve timing technology and the Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) system.

In the Super Production Class, Subaru Rally Team USA driver Dave Mirra and co-driver Derek Ringer took the class win and finished on a fifth place overall. The team is now getting ready for Round 5 of the 2009 Rally America National Championship, scheduled to take place at Susquehannock Trail Rally in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, June 5-6.

Travis Pastrana began driving for Subaru in 2003 and, since then, won nine X Games Gold Medals including two X Games Rally competitions. In February this year, Subaru unveiled a one-of-a-kind Subaru Impreza WRX STI designed for its factory rally driver Travis Pastrana at the Chicago Auto Show. Subaru worked with Pastrana and Vermont SportsCar to create a brilliant yellow "199" WRX STI to celebrate the driver's third consecutive Rally America National Championship.
