The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has just released the report and pictures of the two vehicles involved in the terrible crash that happened on June 7th, leading to the tragic death of a passenger and critically injuring comedian Tracy Morgan. It turns out the truck driver that crashed Morgan’s luxurious van was going 65 mph in a 45-mph speed zone just before the crash.
NTSB’s preliminary report shows that the truck driver had been driving for almost 10 hours and was going 65 mph in a 45-mph area. The accident took place on a New Jersey highway on June 7th, and involved a total of six vehicles. One of the passengers riding in the limo van, comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair was killed, leaving four other injured, including Morgan who is still hospitalized.

“A preliminary review of the data showed that the truck was traveling at 65 mph for the 60 seconds preceding the collision with the Mercedes-Benz limo van,” NTSB says in the preliminary report on the crash. Truck driver Kevin Roper has been charged of vehicular manslaughter and assault by auto and is pleading not guilty.

Even though NTSB’s ongoing investigation concluded the 35-year old trucker from Georgia had over 9-1/2 hours of driving on board, federal rules limit commercial drivers to logging a maximum of 14 hours at a stretch. Tracy Morgan, who remains hospitalized, has recently had his condition uprated from critical to fair. At the time of the accident, the comedian was on the road for his “Turn It Funny” comedy tour and had just performed at the Dover Downs Hotel & Casino in Delaware.
