Toyota Motor Sales USA has just announce August 2013 sales of 231,537 cars,18.4% more than in the same month last year. On an adjusted raw-volume basis, Toyotas actually sold 23% better.
The bulk of the figures came from the Toyota Division, which delivered 201,745 cars last month, an 18.4% increase year-to-year. Thus, Toyota division is the biggest car brand in the US by retail car sales volume.

The popular Camry was once again the best-selling car in America with 45,000 examples sold. Demand for the Prius lineup was also up 30%, especially strong figures being reported in California, where it's the best selling car in 2012.

The new Avalon large sedan also saw its customers increase by triple-digit numbers, while the all-new RAV4 sold 50% better than last year.

“The auto industry continues to be a bright spot in the economic recovery,” said Bill Fay, Toyota division group vice president and general manager.  “August capped a great summer for new vehicle sales, and it was Toyota's best month in more than five years."

For Lexus, August meant 29,792 sales, year-over-year increase of 18.5 percent on a DSR basis and 22.9 percent on a raw volume basis, adjusted for the number of selling days.

The 2014 IS compact luxury sedan sold 87% better than last year, but all the other major models sold well.
