Toyota have announced that they will be introducing the Smart Insect concept, at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies (CEATEC), an annual technology trade show, held in Japan. It is a Twizy-like vehicle, being very similar in very many ways, discussed here.
Aside from the obvious looks- and design-related issues, Toyota is billing it as “next-generation communications-linked concept.” It features motion sensors, advanced voice recognition, as well as behavioral prediction systems, all of which work together, giving the driver a... unique experience. For instance, it will recognize the driver and unlock itself via face recognition software, flashing its lights and saying “Hello!” to let the driver know the authentication has been successful.
Once aboard, everything will most likely be voice-activated, and a ‘virtual assistant’ will communicated with the driver and try to predict his or her next move. The system will probably have the capacity to ‘learn’, and, for instance, if you get into your car on a Sunday afternoon, it would know you’re not going to work, so it would set a different destination - one which you had previously visited around the same time. It is also rumored to be using a sensor borrowed or similar to that of the Xbox Kinect motion detection gadgets.
