The Toyota Supra drag races have been blowing up all over YouTube. We've seen it go up against its sister car, the BMW Z4, a bunch of times already. So to keep things fresh, this race from Car Magazine SA makes it a three-way battle by introducing a Ford Mustang GT.
Once again, we have to bring out horsepower because Toyota and BMW haven't really been consistent. You see, the Z4 in this video is rated at 335 horsepower, even though the American version of the M40i model would have 382 HP.

On paper, this makes it more of a match for the Supra in the output department. But as we've seen with all the dyno tests, the actual output is a bit higher than claimed anyway. The muscle car contender needs to be examined too, as the US version would be rated at 460 horsepower. But this South African model is down to 444 horsepower from its V8.

Still, that's a lot more than the other two from an engine that doesn't need to deal with turbo lag. But as we know, what happens in a drag race isn't always what the numbers predict, especially when we're dealing with Ford's 10-speed auto here, versus the popular ZF 8-speed.

The South African race features both the 400-meter and 800-meter setups, which is basically 1/4 and 1/2 miles give or take. In the first run, the BMW gets slightly ahead but the Supra brings it all back as if it had more power. The Mustang is last but due to its huge engine and power it manages to finish second overall. It also appears to be the fastest to reach 124 mph (200 km/h).

So is this relevant? Well, the numbers are a little weird, and in America, a simple Mustang GT would be way cheaper than the other two. And fast or not, people just aren't considering the Z4 as their next sports car, which sucks for BMW.
