While the aftermarket side of the industry is working relentlessly to bring make the Mk V Supra as quick/fast as its legendary predecessor, let's take a bit of time to see how the stock 2020 Supra handles a drag race. And for this stunt, the Japanese sportrscar goes up against a... sibling, namely a BMW M2 Competition.
The two coupes were thrown at each other in a standing kilometer race, which means they had plenty of room to stretch their mechanical legs.

Motor Sport magazine was the one hosting the battle and, thanks to the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, you'll get to see the velocity fight from inside the Supra. However, the dashboard instruments of both machines were also included in the adventure, so you'll get a complete view of the drag race.

And while the Supra shares its single-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six with many "40i" BMWs, the M2 Competition borrows its heart from the M3/M4, albeit with the twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six being downtuned to 410 ponies.

Speaking of which, I'll remind you that the tuning craze revolving around the new Toyota Supra means many aficioando have just now noticed the aftermarket potential of the B58 motor used by the coupe, which has probably led to an increase in the demand for used BMWs fitted with the motor (you know, builds on a budget).

While the Japanese machine only comes with an eight-speed auto for now, the Bimmer packs an even quicker seven-ratio dual-clutch tranny.

Now, as far as the financial side is concerned, the coupes are that far apart. You see, the 2020 Toyota GR Supra kicks of at $50,920, while the most affordable M2 Comp will set you back $58,900.

Returning to the drag race bentween the two go-fast tools, I'll deliver a bit of a spolier and mention that the drag race left no doubts about the winner, whether we're talking about the numbers or what they eye can tell you.
