Toyota’s Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC) works with leading North American universities, hospitals, research institutes and agencies to develop new safety technologies aiming to reduce traffic fatalities and injuries on the US roads.
Their latest research shows that more than a quarter (27 percent) of Houston’s teenage drivers have read a text or email every time they got behind the wheel. Twenty-four percent of them also claimed that they have responded to the message and 22% admitted to engage in long text message conversations while driving.

Other key results tell that 67% of teens in Huston are using a cellphone (with or without hands-free attachments) during driving and 83% of parents are doing the same thing. Results are based on a telephone survey of 300 teen drivers and 402 parents of teen drivers in the Huston area. Additional locations include Philadelphia, Chicago, Los Angeles, Washington D.C and Long Island NY.
