Toyota Remains Top-Seller Despite Chinese Market Loss

The battle of the world’s top-selling manufacturer goes for decades and Toyota is now in first place despite the shrinking sales in China.
General Motors was the top-seller for about 70 years before Toyota claimed the title in 2008. It then came back to first position after The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that slowed down the Japanese automaker. But Toyota recovered quickly and became again world’s best seller car manufacturer in 2012 and it looks like it’s there for good now, even if it recently suffered from collapsing sales in China.

The incendiary anti-Japanese sentiment generated by the Senkaku territorial dispute from the latter half of last year had a major impact over Toyota’s vehicle sales over in China. Still, Toyota managed to remain ahead of GM thanks to massive sales in other regions.
