Toyota will conduct a voluntary recall for about 342,000 Tacoma Access Cab pickup trucks built from 2004 through 2011 over faulty seatbelt pretensioners.
According to a company statement, “screws that attach the seat belt pre-tensioner to the seat belt retractor within the seat belt assembly for the driver and front passenger can become loose over time due to repeatedly and forcefully closing the access door.”
This could cause the seat belt pre-tensioner and the retractor spring cover to detach from the seat belt retractor, which could affect retractor and pre-tensioner performance in the event of a crash, the statement adds.
Owners affected by the recall will be notified soon and their vehicles checked and, if necessary, repaired at no cost. Until then, owner can contact Toyota for more info on the issue at the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331.
