So, you’re attending the SEMA show... in person or online. If you had to make a list of one of the least expected vehicles to show up with a set of modifications, the Toyota Prius would probable claim a top spot on it, wouldn’t it?
Well, it seems like Toyota has a different opinion, as the automotive producer is presenting the Prius PLUS Performance package at the show.
Created by Toyota Racing Development (TRD), the pack brings exterior changes, a sports suspension and a new set of wheels, leaving the engine untouched. The exterior kit includes redesigned front and rear fascias, fresh side skirts and a rear diffuser. The package doesn’t modify the vehicles factory stock drag coefficient of 0.25.
TRD engineers have fitted the Prius with a set of sport springs that bring the vehicle closer to the road, as well as with a modified rear sway bar that reduces body roll, allowing the driver to push the car harder through the corners. According to the automaker, the new set-up "provides a lower center of gravity, enhancing the vehicles on-road performance through quicker turn-in, enhanced steering response and improved cornering ability."
The vehicle now rides on 17 inch lightweight forged rims that are wrapped in 215/45 tires that come with the same (low) rolling resistance as the standard ones, in order to keep the vehicle’s mpg rating at the same level.
TRD is currently working on similar kits for other hybrid vehicles in Toyota’s range, aiming to offers users a special eco-cool experience.
