Toyota Expects Strong Performance in China

Jarno Trulli expects Toyota to be one of the front-runners in the upcoming Chinese Grand Prix, considering the momentum they've managed to build during the previous 2 races. Toyota have managed to podium places in the last 2 grands prix, with both drivers managing to score points in head-to-head race at Melbourne and Sepang.

Although the main competition is again expected to be provided by Brawn GP, Trulli believes Toyota will be in pole position for challenging for the race win (or at least podium) next Sunday. Considering this might be the last event when the “diffuser three” will be benefiting from the extra downforce provided by their diffuser designs, Toyota are expected to push for glory at Shanghai.

“We are second in the Constructors' Championship so it's clear we are one of the top teams and both Timo and I have consistently been fighting at the front which is great. So the goal for me in China is to fight for the podium again and I think we have a really good chance,” said Glock in a preview for the Chinese Grand Prix.

Although neither Toyota nor Brawn GP are using the Kinetic Energy Recovery System this year, the teams have been very strong during the first couple of races due to their rear diffuser designs (along with Williams F1). The FIA International Court of Appeal will finally bring light into the matter tomorrow, when scheduled to give its final verdict on the aforementioned designs (heavily contested on grounds of illegality by all the other F1 teams).

Trulli's teammate Timo Glock also expressed hopes his team can keep their momentum through the Chinese GP also, as Toyota have proved to be top contenders for race wins in the first 2 rounds of the 2009 season.

“We have had both cars finish in the top four in both races so far this season so we are definitely aiming to challenge for the podium again, but of course it's pretty close so we will have to do another good weekend,” said Glock.
