Wheels are spinning for Toyota in the United States, where the Japanese giant is expanding its Michigan Technical Center. Also, they marked the event by donating Tundra trucks to the local fire departments.
Toyota is investing $126 million in the project, which includes construction of two new buildings in York Township. Also, the carmaker plans to build a new prototype plant for vehicle development and an additional Supplier Center.

As it is the case with every strategic move of such amplitude, we're bound to see some workforce movement as well. Toyota officials announced 300 team members will be relocated to Michigan. Moreover, Toyota claims clients will ultimately benefit from this move what will be reflected in the overall quality of their future products:

Investments here in Michigan will intensify Toyota’s engineering, product development and procurement capabilities. The impact of this will be felt by our customers through improved quality, adoption of new technologies and greater value of the vehicles we produce,” explained Toyota North America CEO, Jim Lentz.

During the event, three Toyota Tundra pickup trucks were offered, one to each of the three different fire departments that serve Toyota’s two regional facilities: Ann Arbor Township, Saline, and Milan.

The expansion will also affect Toyota's powertrain development facility on its Ann Arbor Township campus. As a result, the manufacturer says it will be able to produce engines and automatic transmissions for its North American designed and manufactured vehicles more efficiently.

As you know, Toyota is on a full expansion and re-engineering process led by their new TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform that is designed to reduce costs and underpin better cars and might debut on the new Prius.
