Toyota Corolla To Get Safety Update in the Future

We’ve seen recently what happens with a 2014 Toyota Corolla in IIHS’ small overlap crash test and word is that the Japanese automaker has already started to work on a solution.
Automotive reports that Toyota’s executive vice president Mitsuhisa Kato said at an event in Japan that the company is already “trying to make improvements to the current Corolla,” safety being one of the greatest concerns.

However, we might not see the new safety reinforcements until 2015, as they are said to increase the Corolla’s current weight by as much as 100 kg (220 lb), which will spoil the vehicle’s performances and fuel consumption.

It appears that Toyota knew about the platform’s structural issue, but a company representative said that their traditionally conservative practices were concentrated on achieving an excellent safety score in more important crash tests, like the Euro NCAP.
