US fuel-economy standards are going to raise by 37 percent in the near future to reduce every automaker’s CO2 emission print. This means that every vehicle must improve its average fuel economy from the current 27.5 mpg to 37.8 mpg by 2016.
On that story, Toyota chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada, also known for the development of the Prius, advised that automakers should ramp up their hybrid sells and reach a cumulative 5 million units in three years.

"It's only when we put ourselves under the same kind of intense pressure we faced in developing the Prius that we can achieve great goals," Uchiyamada said at the Economic Club of Washington, D.C., today. "I wish to call on the industry to sell 5 million hybrids in the U.S. by the end of 2016."
