When it comes to used cars, usually the Japanese brands are at the top of the least due to their reliability and small owning costs. And Toyota definitely makes it on the list with two models, even if you’re looking for a second hand car priced under $8,000.
The editors over at Kelley Blue Book compiled a list of all 2004+ used cars with a retail value of less than 8,000 bucks as of February 2014. Then they studied advantages and disadvantages for each one of them and came back with a 10-car list considered to be best for the money.

Surprisingly though, this year the first spot goes to the 2007 Honda Civic, followed by the 2011 Hyundai Accent and the 2005 Honda Accord. The 2005 Toyota Camry came fourth, while the 2004 Prius went 8th.

"Car shoppers in the market for a used vehicle in 2014 are in luck, because as the quality of new cars continues to improve, so does the pool of used cars," said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book's

"The Honda Civic tops this annual list again with a bulletproof reputation for reliability and long-lasting quality. The fuel-efficient Civic is comfortable on the highway, responsive around town, and maintains its solid, refined feel for many years,” he added.

The 2004 Toyota Prius is the second generation model, first one to get the iconic liftback shape. This early version combines the roominess of a midsize sedan, with the practicality of a hatch and an excellent mileage of 48 mpg city and 45 mpg on the highway.

The Camry is pretty much Toyota’s bread and butter in the US for its affordability, reliability and ownership costs. Pretty much like the Corolla, but with a bigger interior and it seems that you’ll get a lot of it for under $8,000, even a fully loaded version.
