As the auto industry in Australia is nowhere near nourish, Toyota’s local subsidiary is said to cut down on jobs and diminish manufacturing costs in order to keep its operations viable.
Toyota Australia will cut 100 jobs at its plant in Melbourne by the end of November this year, while it will also cut production from 470 to 430 units per day starting December.
Executive vice president Dave Buttner said the company must cut the production cost for each vehicle by AU$3,800 by 2018 in order to continue as a local producer.
Toyota Motor Corporation Australia was founded in 1958, starting production in 1963 with the Tiara model. Currently, the plant in Melbourne manufactures a large range of vehicles, including the Aurion, Avensis, Camry, Corolla, Prius, GT 86, FJ Cruiser, Kluger, Hilux and more.
