It will take a long time for us to square in our mind that the XW60-series, fifth-generation Toyota Prius, is a "cool car" by any stretch of the definition. Even almost a full year after the new Prius started its production run, it still doesn't compute just how appealing and downright stylish the Prius has become after 20 years as a laughing stock, a joke, and a dank meme. But with the 2024 model year, the only people about to be laughing are Toyota, all the way to the bank.
With the all-too-vital sophomore year for the fifth-gen Prius, Toyota knew they already had a winning formula on their hands. All that was needed to bring things to another level was a spattering of extra refinements and features, which accentuated the strengths of an already robust and appealing package. With its stunning, almost sports car-like silhouette and optional 19-inch wheels, it won't be hard for the average Prius hater to finally come around to the brand after two decades of non-stop jokes, quips, and jeers at the Prius' expense.

Across three trim packages from the entry-level LE, the mid-range XLE, and the range-topping Limited, Toyota allows prospective Prius buyers to choose the luxuries and features they do want and leave out those they don't. For example, the lower-end LE only receives 17-inch alloy wheels, while the top-of-the-line Limited makes use of premium paint color choices like Supersonic Red and Wind Chill Pearl. All 2024 Priuses come with the choice of a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive powertrain. All will make use of Toyota's 2.0-liter M20A-FXS inline four-cylinder gas engine paired with an electric motor that combines to make a combined 194 horsepower.

Enough to whisk this once-wimpy hybrid to 60 mph in a brisk 7.2 seconds in front-wheel-drive-only models and seven seconds flat with an AWD system installed. With a plethora of up to six USB-C ports available across the range and a center infotainment screen ranging from eight inches to 12.3 inches, depending on the trim package, the 2024 Prius has what it takes to satisfy the ever-growing standard needs and wants that new car-buyers in 2024 don't just expect but demand. That includes a fancy camera and sensor-operated parking assist system that helps orient the vehicle into a pre-selected parking spot with a bare minimum of fuss.

With a starting price of just $27,650 for the entry-level Prius LE, the 2024 Prius manages to pack a whole lot of technology and refinement into a price point that the average working-class American might conceivably be able to afford. With the price of battery-EV and hybrid-drive automobiles growing as each day passes, it's a sign that at least Toyota still looks out for the little guy on occasion.
