Most of the recent recalls we’ve written about seem to take place predominantly in the States, yet here is one from the UK. Toyota is recalling some 138,000 RAV4, Yaris, Auris and Corola models, due to an electrical contact fault, in the driver’s side Power Window Master Switch (PWMS), which over time can wear excessively, and feel notcy, or sticky.
However, Toyota recommends that owners don’t use off-the-shelf cleaning lubricants, because while they may address the notchy nature of the switch, they may also cause the unit to overheat and melt. If this were a US recall, the NHTSA would have called this a ‘fire risk’ situation.
The affected cars were manufactured between September 2006 and December 2008, and so far there have been no reported incidents regarding the issue. Toyota is playing it safe, though, and the unit will be replaced at any local dealer - the manufacturer insists owners not use any of the aforementioned commercial lubricants.
