At the recent launch of the new M3 and M4 models on the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portugal, two BMW Works drivers showed up and showed the audience what the cars were capable of.
The two were Timo Glock and Martin Tomczyk, DTM drivers and, of course, BMW aficionados. What they did over there was talk to the media but also drift the wheels of two specially modified M4s.

By ‘specially modified’ we mean that they were wearing the usual M stripes on them and the names of the two drivers in the windows. Needless to say that plenty of smoke arose from the event and the track was covered in little, microscopic bits of rubber at the end of the ordeal.

Looking over the specs of the two, it’s easy to see why they are so easy to drift. When you have a 1,487 kg (3,278 lbs) car on your hands with a 3-liter inline 6-cylinder biturbo engine under the bonnet, making 431 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque and sending all of them to the rear wheels through a CFRP shaft, what do you think is going to happen?

Drifting the two is very easy. However, doing so with the grace and pose they demonstrated is not. Unfortunately, we don’t have any video of the runs at the moment but we’re expecting BMW to release some in the upcoming hours. Until then, check out the photo gallery and get yourself some nice wallpapers while you’re at it!
