The misconceived preconception that dogs are dumb has been disproved on countless occasions, and while they may lack our mental and intelectual capacity, they are still capable of learning to do complex things, like ride a bicycle, or even drive a car, apparently.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, from Auckland, New Zealand has taken up the task of teaching three dogs to drive, in order to prove that abandoned pets are not second-rate and that they truly deserve a second chance and home. They have teamed up with Mini, and trainers are now hard at work teaching the three dogs, called Porter, Monty and Ginny to drive.

So far, the trainers, lead by Mark Vette, have so far been able to make the dogs ‘sit’ in the driver’s seat correctly, with their paws on the steering wheel. The skills of the three dogs will be put to the test live on local TV, on December 10. We will provide a follow-up story, once the footage becomes available.
