Only a handful of cars can brag about being faster than a factory Lamborghini and you would put your money on a Volkswagen Golf being one of them.
While it may sound impossible, the first car that made the hot hatch concept popular can pack more horsepower than a supercar if tweaked properly. And this is exactly what specialist Boba Kettler did, for an incredible final output of 736 HP.
The beauty of it is that you can't tell what kind of monster you're dealing with by just looking at it. Nothing sets it apart your daily tuned Golf Mk1. However, once ignited, the little hatchback turns into a roaring beast that can dissapear in a cloud of dust in a matter of seconds.
Thinking about a HEMI engine under that hood? Forget about it, it won't fit, obviously. It's just a 2.0-liter 16-valve powerplant with a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger that can go up to 8,800 rpm. A six-speed manual transmission is in charge of taking all that power to the... front wheels. A bit ridiculous, we know, but everything's fine as long as the engine doesn't break the car in two.
Top speed is rated at over 198 mph (320 km/h) and Boba Kettler says the Golf is able to accelerate from 62 to 124 mph (100 - 200 km/h) in just five seconds. In your face Bugatti Veyron!
