It's rare to see "out of the box" drag racing when it comes to the car selection itself. Usually, you get models from their own market segment, which is excellent, don't get me wrong, but from time to time, you need something to make the ol' heart beat faster. Unpredictability is the name of the game, and today, we're jam-packed with it.
Until the main quarter-mile gala event, let's meet our contenders and see what each brought to the fighting ring. The first fantastic ride is the fan-favorite Porsche 918 Spyder in bright metallic orange.

It dons a rear-mounted 4.6-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine that, when combined with the electric motor on the front axle, can produce a maximum of 875 horsepower or 887 ps with 944 lb-ft (1,280 Nm) of torque. It weighs 3,690 lbs. or 1,674 kg.

The incredible thing about this Porsche isn't from the spec sheet but from the price tag: a whopping £1,300,000 or 1,591,198 US dollars. One thing's for sure: it's not for carpooling kids to school or buying groceries. Behind the Porsche 918 Spyder is Mat Watson from the UK-based "carwow" YouTube channel, organizing this entire show.

The next item from the extremely expensive shopping cart is the Redbull rallycross car or, more precisely, a heavily modified Peugeot 208. This all-wheel drive 6-speed demon baby was designed to fly off the line extremely fast. Under the hood, it has a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which can deliver 620 hp or 611 ps. Unfortunately, we didn't get a torque count.

After the customary sound check, it was off to the races. During the first try, the Redbull car kept its promise and blasted off the line, making the Porsche look like it was going at 5 mph. However, during the later half of the race, the 918 Spyder caught up and won by about two car lengths.

On the second try, the heavily modified Peugeot 208 took off even faster than the first time and won the race. The third race wasn't any less epic. They were neck and neck during the first half, but all that power from the Porsche kicked in during the second half and destroyed the rallycross car yet again.

They decided to go for a fourth try. The tension was unbelievable, given how close they were. The Redbull Peugeot won again, equalizing the score 2:2. The fifth time was the decider. It was breathtakingly close between them again, but the Porsche beat the Redbull rallycross in the end.

The fastest 1/4-mile time for the 918 Spyder was 10.1 seconds, while the Redbull car did it in 10.5 seconds. After those five incredible showdowns, they went for a bit of roll racing, where the Porsche obviously won. The rallycross car isn't made to go for straight 1/2-mile strips, so it's only expected for the 918 to win.

If someone was wondering about the brake test, the Peugeot 208 won, but just by a hair.
