Robots nowadays do have a way of making us humans feel dull and underequipped, don’t they? And the DexArm robot makes no exception, as it seems there’s nothing it can’t do.
DexArm is a robotic arm designed by Rotrics and it can turn your desktop into a home workshop. It is a 4-axis modular device that can transform itself into a 3D printer, laser engraver, desktop plotter, you name it.

The machine can be programmed using the Rotrics Studio software, which is also included in the package.

The DexArm has an impressive precision of 0.1 mm (0.003 in) and a repeatability of 0.05 mm (0.001 in), which means you can use it for pretty much any meticulous project. The robot can engrave on several types of materials, from fabric to leather, paper, and wood.

The robotic arm can be placed on roughly any desk. Its dimensions are 175mm x 128mm x 315mm (6.8 X 5.03 X 12.4 in). It also has a large working area: over 210 x 297mm (8.3 x 11.7 inches) for 2D and over 220x220x270 mm (8.6x8.6x14.9 inches) for 3D.

The DexArm is compatible with Mac, PC, and Linux and works with several formats such as STL, OBJ, PNG, JPEG, SVG, and others. You connect it to your computer through the USB-C port and you can program it and control it via its software or using the 3.5-inch touchscreen that's available for purchase. It also comes with an API (Application Programming Interface), for the most tech-savvy who want to use code. Several programming languages are available: Java, Python, C++, C, ROS, and JavaScript.

You can find the DexArm available in three kits, depending on the attachable modules you opt for. The most affordable kit is the Starter one, priced at $799. This one only includes the robotic arm and the pen holder module.
The complete kit will set you back $1,049 and you get all the modules: the pen holder module, 3D printing module, laser module, rotary soft gripper and the rotary air picker. The 3.5-inch touchscreen is also included in this package.
