BMW's new-gen 5 Series is out, yet the company's M sub-brand is still keeping its fanbase waiting for the next M5. If you haven't heard, the model will launch in two body styles, station wagon (Touring) and sedan, and both are coming to North America.
Yep, you read that right, the current Audi RS 6 Avant (and the next-gen RS 7 Avant per the marque's new naming scheme), as well as the long-roof version of the Mercedes-AMG E 63, will face some stiff competition (pun intended) from the upcoming BMW M5 Touring.

We've seen numerous spy shots of the car in its two flavors, which will feature sportier front and rear ends compared to the regular 5ers. Look for different bumpers, tweaked grilles, sporty diffusers at the rear, and a few other bits and bobs sprinkled with the usual M logos and completed with exclusive color options and dedicated wheels.

Beneath the skin, the next M5 has a re-tuned chassis. It rides closer to the asphalt and is a bit stiffer than the normal 5 Series, and this translates to improved cornering. Uprated brakes back up the bespoke alloys on all four corners, providing superior stopping power.

As every car enthusiast who has kept a close eye on the upcoming BMW M5 can tell you, reports point towards an electrified V8. The 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 might be the same one powering the XM, aka BMW M's first standalone vehicle after the M1, which has an electric motor inside the eight-speed transmission.

It is yet unknown how much power it has, but if it stays true to the XM Label Red, then it should benefit from 738 hp (749 ps/550 kW). The high-rider enjoys 738 lb-ft (1,000 Nm) of torque. It will probably bury the current M5 CS in its entry-level form, and some say the 0-60 mph (0-97 kph) sprint might take less than three seconds. Thus, there's a lot to be grateful for regarding this model.

BMW's all-new M5 will enter production this summer, reports indicate. The first one to hit the assembly line will be the four-door variant, with the M5 Touring expected to join it in November. Thus, both will be 2025 models by the time they arrive in the United States and as you can expect, the sedan will be the first one to make its way to dealers, followed a few months later by the five-door version.

Meanwhile, we will still see it in action in prototype form, and rendering artists will continue to decipher its visual secrets, just like germanysfinest43 did. These digital illustrations were uploaded on social media over the weekend, and they're close to reality. So, what do you think about the styling?
