If you're a Lexus fan who always dreamed of racing the Lexus RC F but couldn't find the right time for doing that, don't worry because virtual reality has got your back.
Long story short, Lexus has created an action-packed scenario in which the user can take the new RC F coupé for a spin on the Ascari circuit in the south of Spain from their couch, by using an app, of course: the Lexus VR viewer.
"For the RC F, we have created an amazing virtual reality experience that can be enjoyed and shared by anyone, anywhere – without the traditional hardware limitations. The combination of realism, multi-platform availability and YouTube 360° video streaming makes it truly a world first,” said Spiros Fotinos, Lexus Europe’s Head of Marketing.
Well, that sounds sweet and all that but let's see what this new gadget is all about.
The gizmo promises to mesmerize the user with authentic speed, handling and sound of the 475 horsepower V8 in the RC F without him or her actually sitting in the cockpit and they should speak the truth because the entire action was filmed on the Ascari track using 360-degree digital footage techniques.
Both Android or iOS users will have access to the virtually-induced thrills. The app can be used as such or with the Google Cardboard VR viewer.
However, for best effect, Lexus is encouraging users to experience the 360° RC F film in its Oculus Rift VR version or with the newly introduced 360° YouTube video streaming function (currently only working with Chrome browsers).
