We've all seen what rust does to a car, and unfortunately, we're reminded of this painful outcome occasionally when people worldwide come across vehicles abandoned for decades in places away from humanity.
Barn finds are great, and I enjoy exploring them, as they're typically a second chance a forgotten gem receives to return to the road. Yard finds are intriguing, too, but they usually exhibit bigger problems, including massive rust.
The 1959 Corvette you can't see in these pictures is something different.
eBay seller mccomase posted the "car" online earlier this week, looking for a new owner who wants a 1959 Corvette body for restoration. The owner describes it as a project car, but it's a Corvette body with the rear clip and several fiberglass body panels, all requiring major repairs.
It's not hard to figure out this Corvette has been sitting for a while, and by a while, I mean decades. What's worse is that it looks like the pile of metal and fiberglass has been sitting under the clear sky, possibly as the original Corvette, where everything was sitting together nicely, served as a donor for another project.
The owner says the car comes with a different VIN frame underneath it, but the year is unknown. The factory original VIN tag is still present, and I believe this is the best part of the entire Corvette pile.
You won't get any extra parts, so if you were hoping for an engine, that's not going to happen this time.
If you've been in the restoration business for more than a few years, you probably know already that 1959 Corvettes are pretty rare, so finding the necessary parts for an incomplete project is an even bigger challenge. Chevrolet produced only 9,670 units for this model year, despite the 1959 release not exhibiting too many changes from the previous model.
Despite the horrible shape of this Corvette "project," the owner still expects to get a lot of money for the car, as they listed it on eBay with a $6,500 price tag. However, because a 1959 body is very rare, the listing has already caught the attention of many people online, so eBay says 69 users are already watching the Corvette.
The owner also enabled the Make Offer option, so if you're interested in the body, maybe you could get a better deal.
