This is a massive collaboration project, and it could be yours – the big and happy team has decided to auction the crazy build on January 27 at the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale event in Arizona.
General Motors bought the Hummer brand name – a civilian version of the world-renowned M998 Humvee military truck – back in 1998 and sold just three models. The Humvee directly inspired the original Hummer H1, plus the H2 and H3 nameplates that were based on average, smaller civilian GM platforms. Well, despite the initial hype, the Hummer idea turned out to be a dud. However, GM again has faith in its potential, and from late 2021, we can buy the revived GMC Hummer EV, now a massive zero-emissions truck that's about the same weight as a light tank. There's also a GMC Hummer EV SUV, but that one isn't any lighter, either.
Well, there's at least one Humvee out there where the total weight is inconsequential – as is the fact that it's not capable of any off-roading anymore. Meet the "world's first" 6x6 Humvee, a product stemming from the ensemble imagination of Richard Rawlings' Gas Monkey Garage, Frenchy Export LLC, and Danton Arts Kustoms USA. Initially, this was a 2009 AM General Military Humvee – alas, it's going to be hard for anyone to take it seriously on a battlefield.
Instead, the soldiers would probably get busy – all of them – falling in a single line for a quick selfie with the monster that obviously spits in the face of convention with help from a roaring 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8 stolen from a Hellcat vehicle. The entire body is custom-made and comes with shortened rear doors, a chopped roof, and enough chassis space to fit the 6x6 assembly. Additionally, everyone clearly sees that it's slammed beyond belief, right?
Well, it's not a rendering; it's no AI, as this is the real deal. The modern touches make it a sort of restomod, the front bronze 20-inch wheels make it ritzy, and the four rear ones are also upgraded to 24 inchers. Additionally, according to Danton, this isn't precisely a 6x6 per se because only the rear wheels are powered, as often is the case with these monsters. Of course, probably nobody cares about it – unless it can do burnouts and drifts, that is.
Although it has bucket seats inside, this is obviously a 'trailer queen' made for the love of the show rather than the track game. Still, the details are exquisite, from the 717 horsepower sitting under the hood to the six-wheel disc brakes – and this crazy contraption also has one final thing that will make it a build for the ages: the rear spoiler is an actual wing taken from an airplane!
