Spotify is right now the most popular music app that users turn to on Android and Android Auto, and it happens for good reason, as it makes it super-convenient to listen to your favorite music wherever you are.
Of course, Spotify is particularly popular among Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as the app brings its huge collection of songs right behind the wheel by running on head units inside cars.
But this doesn’t necessarily mean that Spotify doesn’t need further improvements, and there’s one feature that for some reason is still missing and the parent company doesn’t necessarily seem to be very interested in adding: listening history.
At this point, Spotify doesn’t allow you to track music listening, so if you want to play a song that you listened to a couple of hours ago, there’s no way to check the history on Android and Android Auto. The funny thing is that such a feature actually exists in the desktop client of Spotify, as it allows you to view the playing queue and go back to songs you previously listened to.
But on the other hand, such a feature is missing from Android devices, and right now, there’s still no confirmation Spotify is looking into bringing it to users.
Meanwhile, you can enable tracking music listening with third-party services that are supported by Spotify. For example, you can use the Last.fm integration to do the whole thing, but of course, you need an additional account just for this purpose. This isn’t necessarily the most convenient workaround, albeit it’s actually one of the easiest ways to do it without Spotify supporting it in the first place.
As a matter of fact, Spotify currently has nearly 125 million subscribers, with over 270 million monthly active users. It claims it has more than 50 million tracks and over 4 billion playlists, being available in a total of 79 countries across the world.
