Our US friends and readers will find it hard to understand why we're getting excited about a diesel executive mid-size. But if you want a good car all-round that people will respect and still turns its fair share of heads, you could do a lot worse than the C220 CDI.
In full luxury, this car will produce only 117 grams of CO2 and consume 5 liters of fuel every 100 kilometers of the urban cycle. If you compared that to a Renault Clio TCe's 5.6 l/100km and 105 grams of CO2, you realize just what an amazing car this is.
And while the 170 hp and 400 Nm of torque are well short of a mighty V8 sports saloon, the C220 CDI is still dynamic and a bit of a hooligan. This next video shot by BerlinTomek shows how the car can put down rubber and even do donuts in a parking lot. No, it's not an SLK with two extra seats, but it is the next best thing if you live in the real world.
Acceleration isn't a problem either and as you'll see overtaking everybody on the Autobahn is a breeze. But going 110 km/h in seventh gear, you can barely hear the diesel engine.
This being the brand new C-Class we're talking about, it looks the absolute business, like a baby S-Class but without giving off a shrunken vibe.
