Yamaha is definitely on a spree, and if you though the cool things were reserved to the European markets, here’s one new Indian bike which will make you drool. Welcome the new Yamaha FZ, an 170cc bike with looks which will surely make a lot of riders in Western markets grind their teeth in frustration.
It’s not often when we get hyped over small-displacement bikes, but this new FZ revision brings in a really awesome design. Not as edgy and mean as the killer Yamaha MT-125 we recently showcased on autoevolution, but definitely a good sparring partner, if you wish.

While at first rumored to be a carbureted model the new FZ will sport electronic fuel injection for the 170cc engine, and capable of producing around 18 horsepower. By adding EFI to the FZ, Yamaha intnds to make the bike lighter and offer a better power to weight ratio, which should be a very important selling point.

Introduced at the 2014 Auto Expo, the new Yamaha FZ gets a slimmer body, and 120mm rear wheels, fake – but very good-looking air intakes under the sporty, aggressive tank, an all-digital dash, a two-piece seat and a new tail light. This 5-speed bike still has strong competition in the shape of the Pulsar 200NS, but Yamaha hopes that the $1,680 (€1,225) price tag will draw in a lot of young customers. Back in my teen days, seeing such a small-displacement machine will have most likely caused me to lose my mind, and I guess I’m not the only one.
