We knew that Kawasaki was preparing more affordable versions for their small-displacement machines for quite some time, and now we’re glad we can bring you photos of the new 2014 Z250SL recently launched in Japan.
The new small Z remains faithful to the line of the Ninja 250SL, and Kawasaki have been wise enough to keep the recipe unchanged. The bike is aimed at new riders in search of killer, big-bike looks and decent street performance, and judging by how cool it looks, we could safely assume it will sell like hot cakes.

Kawasaki maintained the edgy and futuristic lines in order to maintain the aggressive nature of the big Z machines. The bike is built on a tubular trellis frame which is really eye-candy in its red version. While it looks like this is the same frame the small Ninja uses, seeing it in broad daylight makes it look much cooler, by all means.

The Z250SL is powered by the single-cylinder version of the engine, with a 249cc displacement and mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The suspensions are also identical to those of the Ninja 250SL, with 37mm forks and the 5-way adjustable Uni-track rear monoshock. The front brake uses a single 263mm rotor, complemented by a 193mnm one in the back.

ABS is offered as an option, and will add 2 kilos (4.4 lbs) to the base 148 kg (327 lbs) dry weight of the 2014 Kawasaki Z250SL. Even though no specific info was released on the availability of this bike, we guess that this will be a treat reserved for the Asian and, possibly, South American markets, with its more expensive twin-engined version sent to the Western ones.
