You know, if you heard this guy who filmed this tell you all about he saw that night, and then another one told you about how the aliens chased him for two miles, you'd probably be more inclined to believe the latter.
Some things just defy any sort of logical explanation, and that's why we're not even going to try and find one. The important thing that needs to be asked is did you enjoy it or not? If the answer is "yes," then his little moment of going coo coo was worth it. If, on the other hand, it is "now," then he's just another one of those lost their minds in an attempt to know Internet glory.
Strangely, we'd say he was quite entertaining. We're not going to comment on his drumming skills as the wind noise makes it quite hard to tell if there's any real rhythm there, but for the show alone, we'd give him four stars out of five. Why not full marks? Well, it's because he was showing off. The moment he sensed (these people sense it, you know?) there was a phone's camera pointed at him, he immediately started banging those drums like he was auditioning for the Jungle Book. A man who doesn't feel like he has something to prove will just stick to the plan no matter how many cameras are facing his way.
Now let's ignore the (ahem!) musical part and focus on the safety. "What safety?" you ask, and we couldn't agree more. The last time we checked, the highway was that place where semis and fast-moving vehicles drove, so you really wouldn't want to be sitting in a pickup's bed, surrounded by drums or not. And those multi-colored lights are cool, but they sure don't help you avoid the police, if you know what we mean.
