If you're into really amazing cars that are either ridiculously expensive expensive or not for sale at all, the annual Concorso d'Eleganza of Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, Italy, is the best place on earth. Just over two months after they revealed it in Geneva, Maserati took the amazing Alfieri to this very event, showing it off in front of all the millionaires and playboys gathered there.
We're not sure what they thought, but we're as smitten as a kitten with the Alfieri, especially once the engine is turned on. That's right, the engine!

The heart of this Trident's concept has never been heard in the real world, since firing it up inside the Geneva Motor Show halls would have been impossible. Since the concept is based on the Grantursimo MC Stradale, the growl is distinctively "V8", with a semi-impressive 460 hp being used only to drive very slowly. The 4.7-liter has been around for quite a while now, but we think it never sounded better.

Production is a 100% certainty for the Alfieri, at least until Maserati's major investment plan hits a speed bump. Scheduled to arrive somewhere between now and 2018, this sexy coupe will not be powered by any V8 engines, but by smaller turbocharged 3-liter V6s, three slightly different ones.

Based on an "evolutionary set of shared systems" both coupe and convertible versions of the concept car are planned and will share numerous components with the Ghibli. Three specific outputs have already been announced. Base models will come with 410 hp, while 450 hp and 520 versions will come only with all-wheel drive to compete against the Porsche 911 range.

But let's not let the numbers ruin a good ear-full of V8 grumble!
